I’m Sam Avanceña, a Singapore-based Business Intelligence and Analytics professional with a foundation in application development and more than two decades of experience solving practical technology problems.
Who I am
My work sits between business questions and technical systems. I help teams understand what their data is saying, investigate when it does not look right, and shape reporting experiences that support better decisions.
Business Intelligence is the centre of that work. Experience with databases, data warehousing, application development, and self-hosted systems gives me a wider lens: I can trace a problem across layers, speak with different disciplines, and build a practical solution when an off-the-shelf answer is not enough.
How I approach problems
I start by clarifying the decision a person needs to make. From there, I work backwards through definitions, source data, transformations, and presentation. That discipline helps keep dashboards useful and makes discrepancies easier to resolve.
I value solutions that are understandable, maintainable, and honest about their limits. Whether I am supporting a BI platform, improving an ETL process, or building a personal technical project, reliability matters more than novelty.
